Larry Ellison, the somewhat eccentric CEO of Oracle, has long been on my short list of “if there really are super villains, they are certainly one of them”. But funny as well as insightful? I never really considered that possibility. And yet here is an excellent rant (with all the passion you’d except from a super villain) by Ellison on cloud computing. And what’s weirder is that he’s got a point.
What the #@!$ Is a Cloud?

Absolutely. And while his definition of ‘cloud’ was rather vague, it is the best one I have heard because the ‘cloud’ is made up of hardware, software and networks.
Yup, you caught The Oracle monologuing! It was a good monologue nonetheless, even though I’ll have a tough time keeping a straight face next time Marketing asks me what we’re doing about “The Cloud”.

So what you’re saying is that if Ellison has you trapped and is about ready to dispatch you, you should say something like “You may fell me, but The Cloud will continue!” and he’ll go on and on, buying you enough time to plan and execute your escape.
“I’ll get you next time, Bill Kish!”
